motoscope - no / wrong speed

Devices with 6 digits and without serial number need a plus active signal.
motoscope with 8-digit serial number can be plus or ground active. This can be found out by means of the serial number and the corresponding operating manual or by means of a test.

The test can be found in the article "motoscope - Connecting speed sensor" linked below.

motoscope does not show speed:

  • Wrong input signal

Check the input signal and connect the speedometer sensor accordingly.

  • Non-compatible speed sensor

Sensors with a high pulse count may not be compatible.

  • motoscope defective

Check if the motoscope shows a rash.

  • Wiring unclean

Check connections and supply lines.

If an incorrect speed is displayed:

  • check if the sensor and the magnet(s) are installed correctly

How to install the sensor correctly and adjust it in the motoscope is described in the article "motoscope - Connecting speed sensor" linked below.

  • Check Circ and ImpW / Pulse values

Circ: rolling circumference of the wheel, in the respective manual you can find a table with common wheel sizes.
ImpW / Pulse: Number of pulses per wheel revolution, this corresponds to the number of magnets used.

Other speed sensors
When using the OEM speedo sensor, the following must be observed. This must be a 3 wire sensor which is operated with 12V. The best way to see it is in the wiring diagram of the motorcycle.

  • check if the sensor is compatible

If the motoscope displays a speed the sensor is usually compatible.

  • Teach-in the sensor by means of the TEACH function

An explanation of the TEACH function can be found in the respective operating manual of the motorscope used or in the article "motoscope - Speed sensor" linked below.
