motoscope - Connecting speed sensor
Before installing the speedometer sensor, it is important to find out which signal the motoscope needs.
If the motoscope does not have a serial number or a 6-digit serial number like "001121", it usually needs a plus controlled speedometer signal.
For 8-digit serial numbers the required signal can be taken from the respective manual (note the corresponding serial number) or can be determined by a simple test.
Testing the speedometer input:
Before installing the speedometer sensor, check if the motoscope is ground active.
- Set Circ to 2000 and ImpW / Pulse to 1
- Switch to speed display
- Tap the cable of the speedometer input signal as fast as possible against ground, if a speed is displayed the motoscope is ground active.
If no speed is displayed, frequently tap the cable for the speedometer input signal to +12V.
If a speed is displayed here, the motoscope is a plus-active device.
For plus-active devices, connect the sensor to switched plus (terminal 15) and the other cable to the speedometer input of the motoscope.
Original speedometer sensor:
OEM sensors may cause problems. On Harley Davidson models and Buell models the number of pulses coming from the gearwheel is too high for the motoscope classic.
5V speed sensors do not work, only sensors with 12V supply are compatible.
These sensors have to be taught with the TEACH function. This can be found in the article "motoscope - speedometer sensor" linked below.
Here is a simplified description of how to connect the sensor when a ground active signal is needed.
