motoscope -RPM is displayed incorrectly / not at all or fluctuates strongly
RPM is not displayed at all
Test signal input:
- Disconnect signal cable for rpm from wiring harness
- Switch on the ignition and select the menu item RPM in the display
- tap the cable for the speed signal input frequently against vehicle ground (as fast as possible)
The motoscope should now display a rpm value. If not, try to tap faster. If the rpm is still not displayed, please contact the motogadget support team, see below.
Speed half or double:
Depending on the engine and ignition setup the settings of the ImpE value will vary.
If only half the rpm is displayed, then halve the ImpE value.
In the manual of the motoscope can a table be found for a rough orientation.
If the rpm varies too much, it is probably due to the quality of the ignition signal:
- Check the connection of the tachometer input (directly to the negative pole of the primary circuit of the ignition coil)
The InpF value is responsible for smoothing the input signal. There are 4 different possibilities available.
- Test all filters once
When using an ignition signal pickup:
- ImpF value is not important for the ignition signal pickup
- Try different positions on the ignition cable
- With two- or multicylinder engines, also try out on the other ignition cable
Error detection on the vehicle side:
1. determine ignition type:
Please go to the article “ motoscope - Identify ignition type” for a detailed explanation.
2. transistor ignition:
- The speed signal input of the motoscope can be connected directly to the negative pole (primary circuit) of the ignition coil.
3. capacitor ignition:
- An ignition signal pickup is required Item no.: 9000001
This is attached directly to the ignition cable between ignition coil and spark plug connector by means of cable ties.
- More information can be found in the article “motoscope - ignition signal pickup”.
4. pick up ignition signal with Coil on Stick (integrated ignition coil in the spark plug connector):
If the motorcycle has already installed the ignition coil in the spark plug connector, then remove the signal at the minus / ground lead. It is important that the connector has only 2 leads.
There are also versions with 3 cables, one plus, one minus and one cable for the signal. The signal cable must have a 12V potential to which the motoscope is connected.
If there is no signal available, please contact the motogadget support team.
