motoscope - Identify ignition type

If it is not known exactly which type of ignition is installed on the motorcycle, please proceed as follows.

If the motorcycle works without a battery then it will be a capacitor discharge ignition but this is best seen on the schematic of the motorcycle.

The ignition coil of a transistor ignition or battery ignition is connected to the switched positive. This gets a negative input pulse from the ignition / ECU.

In case of capacitor ignition the ignition coil is directly connected to ground. The ignition coil gets a positive input pulse from the ignition.

Our tachometers can only be connected directly to the ignition coil in case of transistorized ignition (negative connection of the primary circuit). With other types of ignition, such as capacitor ignition, the rpm can only be measured with the ignition signal pickup. This depends strongly on the signal quality of the ignition. Therefore the function cannot be guaranteed.
